Miscellaneous photos of Alexandria, the largest port in Egypt. It was named after Alexandria the Great. One of the most interesting things about Alexandria is that there is an entire, older Roman city beneath the modern one. We take a train from Cairo, which is 3 plus hours. Some of the landmarks are: The "Bibliotheca Alexandrina" a cultural center for learning; the Roman Amphitheatre dating back to 2nd century AD with mosaic flooring and columns; the "The Citadel of Qaitbay" an important stronghold along the Mediterranean Sea Coast. We also stroll in the Montazah Gardens. Click on the first image to start through the slide show.
