Caesarea and Haifa are on the coast of the Mediterranean. Caesarea was dedicated to Caesar Augustus some 2000 years ago by Herod the Great. Herod built an aqueduct that brought fresh water to the city from the springs at the foot of Mount Carmel, making it an important port. The ancient amphitheater remains a spectacular relic along with many artifacts including two headless marble statues. Much of Caesarea has been excavated and restored. Haifa is Israel's third largest city and is famed for its lovely terraced landscapes that look out over hills and water.
