More Kauai

A must see/do in Hawaii is a Luau. We also visited the reconstruction of an ancient village.

The background on this page is a photo I took of a Hibiscus flower.

Upon arrival, a photo opportunity. The sign they are making with their hands is the official Hawaiian symbol for 'HANG LOOSE'.

See the pig larger.
The first thing they do at a luau is cook a whole pig in a pit that is covered with banana leaves. By the time we arrive, it is time to uncover it and transfer it to a large pan. Then it is shredded and put on the buffet table with all the other goodies.

Hula dancing by both men and women is the entertainment at a luau.

See the MEN hula.

These huts, above, (and several others) make up a native Hawaiin village. The one above has stone walls, but most were straw like the roofs. The site was used for filming the movie ' ' with . In the movie the village was African.

On the left is the inside of one hut. These rocks are called 'birthing rocks'. I don't even want to know exactly how they are used, but it sure looks uncomfortable.
On the right is a boat going to the 'Fern Grotto', which is a couple of miles up the river.

Lighthouse on the point.
