Amsterdam

Amsterdam is where we start our river cruise. There are more canals here than in Venice. They run in circles all around the city. Many people live on houseboats; and ride their bicycles everywhere.

(Above) Amsterdam is home to one of the world's greatest art collections. The Rijksmuseum officially opened in July of 1885, although it was started years earlier. It is the most important of Dutch museums, and contains approximately 5,000 paintings, along with a large number of European sculptures, Eastern Art, furniture, silverwork, tapestries, etc. Some of Rembrandt's paintings can be found here.
